Overview
Tracer Methodology is considered one of the most effective and widely used approaches in healthcare accreditation surveys. It is adopted by national accreditation bodies such as CBAHI and international organizations such as JCI as a key tool for assessing the quality of care and evaluating actual compliance with standards within healthcare organizations. The importance of this methodology is not limited to external surveyors; it is also a powerful strategic tool used by healthcare organizations themselves — through their leadership and staff — to measure internal compliance with policies and procedures, proactively prepare for accreditation visits, and continuously monitor performance to ensure sustainable quality and patient safety. The strength of this methodology lies in its comprehensiveness and practicality. It enables tracking the patient journey or process across multiple departments, providing a realistic view of how care is delivered in practice rather than relying solely on documented policies. Studies have shown that 8 hours of learning through the application of tracer methodology can exceed the value gained from 20 hours of traditional document or file review. In this course, a healthcare accreditation expert will guide participants through the tracer methodology in a practical and detailed manner, focusing on how to implement it internally as a measurement and improvement tool, leverage it to enhance compliance levels and accreditation readiness, and strengthen a culture of quality and continuous improvement within healthcare organizations.
