Overview

Scientific writing is often a difficult and arduous task for many students! This succinct step‐by‐Step guide to scientific writing breaks down the scientific writing process into easily digestible pieces, providing concrete examples that students can refer to when preparing a scientific manuscript. The course provides a high level training of key writing and analytical skills which are required to communicate complicated, scientific information to researchers, physicians and the general public. By increasing medical students and physicians exposure to the scientific writing process, we hope to better improve their writing skills.

What I will learn?

Upon conclusion of this workshop, participants should be able to:
- Describe the process of medical writing for an international journal or writing a thesis from formulating a research question to manuscript publication.
- Understand study designs and which design to choose
- Summarize the important components of a standard original research article, including abstract, title and choosing keywords
- Select appropriate data bases, Boolean operators and keywords in order to perform an effective literature search
- Appreciate the importance of following ethics of medical writing and identify different forms of plagiarism
- How to prepare the manuscript for the final submission process,
- Understanding the editorial and peer review process
- Responding to the comments of the reviewers.

This blended step by step scientific writing program is designed to provide a high level training of key writing and analytical skills. The course is comprised of 10 sessions, of which 4 will be pre-recorded.

Duration: 7 hours + 40 minutes, each session will be for 30 - 90 minutes depending upon the topic.
